Sub Surface Geotechnical and Environmental Consultants Limited undertake the consultancy work for the Sub Surface group of companies which have offices in Preston, Ossett, Bromsgrove and High Wycombe.

We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer based at our Preston office. Ideally the person would have the following:-

• A degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, Geology or related subjects and preferably a relevant Masters degree.

• Have Chartered status or be close to Chartered status.

• A minimum of 5 years experience in geotechnical investigation, design, consultancy and report writing, covering a wide range of projects.

• Essential extensive experience of geotechnical report writing and design including foundations, piling, vibroflotation and dynamic compaction etc. Slope stability, retaining wall and earthworks assessment, analysis and design. Geological and mining investigation, assessment and design.

• Desirable experience of environmental issues including phase 1, 2 and 3 investigations and risk assessments, options appraisal, design of remedial measures and validation of contaminated land, landfill gas etc.

The position involves liaising with Sub Surface contract staff in the various offices and with Clients, supervising and mentoring junior staff, to enable the group to provide a comprehensive “one-stop-shop” for all ground investigation, geotechnical and environmental needs from planning stage to completion of the final constructed product.

GEOTECHNICAL CONTRACTS ENGINEER- BROMSGROVE

Sub Surface Midlands Limited, part of the Sub Surface group of companies (established since 1972), specialises in geotechnical and geoenvironmental site investigation and consultancy, operating from its office in Bromsgrove, Worcs.

We currently have a vacancy for a Geotechnical Contracts Engineer, which for the right person could lead to rapid career progression within the group. The position would suit an ambitious, dynamic, commercially aware person with experience in the organisation and running of site investigation contracts. Ideally the person would have the following:-

• A degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, Geology or related subjects.

• Have a desire to progress to Chartered status.

• A minimum of 3 years experience in the management of ground investigation contracts including: liaison with clients, design of investigations, tendering, organisation of sub contractors, drilling crews, plant, machinery, equipment etc., contract documentation and final bill measurement. Also will need to be fully conversant with BS5930 and be fully competent at supervising drilling crews on site, trial pitting, logging soils and rock strata, installation and monitoring of gas/groundwater standpipes and other instrumentation, in-situ testing etc.

Sub Surface Midlands undertakes all the site investigation work for the Sub Surface group over a large area of central and southern England. The position involves the day to day organisation, co-ordination, supervision and undertaking of the company’s workload, working closely with the Contracts Manager/Director. This includes all aspects; liaison with and advising clients, design of investigations, tendering, contract documentation, organisation/supervision of sub contractors, site works, production of laboratory testing schedules, final bill measurement etc.
